E

Ecology

The relationship between organisms and their physical surroundings.

Endogeic

Worms that dwell beneath the surface of the soil; they rarely emerge and construct horizontal burrows. They feed on soil and are less pigmented than other groups of worms usually appearing grey,pink or green.

Epigeic

Surface dwelling earthworms that feed on decaying matter rather than on soil. Usually found under leaf litter, in rotting logs or in epiphytes on trees. Appear red in colour or sometimes blue in the tropics.

Epilobic

when the lines running from the prostomium stop on the first segment and do not divide the first segment (peristomium).
